The addenda to the Marc H. Morial papers contain material regarding his terms as Mayor of New Orleans, but relate primarily to his career following his service as Mayor. Materials center on his positions with the US Conference of Mayors and the National Urban League.
The addition to Mr. Morial's papers consist of professional correspondence from the period following his mayoral tenure as the Mayor of New Orleans (1994-2002), when he joined the law firm Adams & Reese, LLP as part of their governmental relations business team. Correspondence for the year 2002 within the files labeled "Reading File," overlaps with his work as the President of the United States Conference of Mayors. The correspondence is professional in nature, but with personal anecdotes. Both incoming and outgoing correspondence is included in this addition. Of note is one box of materials from Ernest "Dutch" Morial's campaign for the Mayor of New Orleans, dating 1976-1978, including correspondence from the Campaign Committee, news clippings, legal briefs, and reports. Correspondence files are arranged in chronological order and original file unit titles have been kept within the subject line of the inventory.
The bulk of the addition for Morial's papers consists of materials generated during his appointment as the President and CEO of the National Urban League in New York. The bulk of the correspondence comes from electronic mail and fax with regard to planning, transition, and congratulations on Morial's appointment. Some correspondence was forwarded to Morial for informational purposes by his staff. Also, included in the addition for the National Urban League are budgets, newsletters, a transition plan, executive committee minutes, reports and a transcript of Morial's inaugural address.
The addition to the papers include general correspondence, publications generated by the National Urban League, press releases during the last two years of Mayor Morial's term, and political advertisement flyers, articles and news clippings. Lastly, a report written by Mayor Morial called "Focus On Education Now!" (August 14, 2001) and a copy of "Jasmine's Report," an elementary school paper by Jasmine Love about the former and current mayors of New Orleans are included.
