Where is the Amistad
Research Center located?
The Center is located in Tilton Hall on the Tulane University
Campus at 6823 St. Charles Avenue, directly across from Audubon
Park. Amistad is a twenty-minute streetcar drive from downtown
New Orleans.
How long will it
take to obtain a photo duplication?
Photograph reproductions require approximately 14 days to process, and must be done within U.S. Copyright laws. For photograph requests, please contact our Reference Department at (504) 862-3222.
What is your photocopy
policy?
Photocopies are provided as a service for research purposes only. Photocopy requests are usually completed with 24-48 hours. However, larger orders may require more time and are dependent on staff availability. Amistad staff will make all copies due to the fragility of most items. For photocopy requests, please contact our Reference Department at (504) 862-3222.
Does the Center
exhibit art?
Yes, Amistad has an excellent art collection. However, due to limited space, the Center can only exhibit limited portions of its art holdings at this time.
Do you have an admission
fee?
Admission is free, however, we will gratefully accept and
invite membership support. To become a member, go to our membership page.
Do you give tours?
Yes, we provide tours for a maximum of 25 people per visit.
Reservations are required and tours are free. Please see our Tours Policy.
Do you have a Gift
Shop?
Yes, posters, note cards, books and souvenirs are available
for purchase. Please check out our online Gift Shop.
What types of educational
materials/curriculum guides do you have?
Presently, we have the AMA & Promise of a Multicultural
America: 1839-1964, Educational Timeline & Curriculum
Guide CD available. For more information on how you can obtain

May I check out
materials?
Amistad is a non-circulating Library. All materials must be
used in the Reading Room.
Who can use the
materials at the Amistad Research Center?
Everyone is welcome to use our collections. Researchers should consult books and secondary sources before requesting archival collections. We advise researchers to contact Reference staff in advance via email or by telephone at (504) 862-3222.
How do I donate
my personal papers?
The Amistad Research Center is a non-profit organization and
we welcome donations relating to our mission and collecting
policies. You will need to make an appointment with Brenda
Square, Director of Library and Archives via email or by telephone
